Understanding the difference between DAP, DPU and DDP is important for smooth and successful transactions for the importer and exporter. There are currently 11 Incoterms® that are used throughout global trade. DAP, DPU and DDP Incoterms® that are used at the final part of the supply chain, where delivery is made to the named place or destination.

In all cases, the seller must contract for carriage to that place of delivery at their cost and bear the risk until delivery is completed. In DAP and DDP the seller delivers not unloaded, whereas in DPU the seller delivers unloaded. In DAP and DPU the buyer import clears, in DDP the seller import clears.

This time, let’s look at DAP/ DPU/ DDP of Incoterms Group D. Incoterms rules have been revised in , , and to ensure that the trade terms are clearer. However, the terms DDU and DAT which are already abolished are still being used in commercial practices. We will now focus on the latest Incoterms Group D.

DPU: Delivered at Place Unloaded (Named Place of Destination) Previously known as Delivered At Terminal (DAT), this renamed term now encompasses deliveries to all places, not just terminals. Under DPU, the seller bears all responsibilities—including arranging and transporting the goods—up until the goods are unloaded from the arriving means.
